My name is James Oilar, and ever since I was in college my goal was to own and operate my own sports club. I loved God and I loved sports, but no doubt I was giving the latter far more attention. After receiving my degree in Exercise Physiology and Sport Management, I started my career as a Personal Trainer in Memphis, TN. With promotions came company transfers and I later lived in Houston, TX and Chicago, IL. Along the way, that balance between my love for sports and love for God had changed and I had to make a decision.
I decided to take that proverbial “leap of faith” placing myself firmly in His hands and I made a one-year commitment to serve at a missionary kid school in Bogotá, Colombia. I taught Health, Anatomy, and Business Math but my greatest joy was coaching Basketball. It was through basketball that I had made several contacts within the coaching community and I realized that there was a huge opportunity to start a sports ministry. Realizing that I couldn’t take on such a huge endeavor on my own, I contacted the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for help, not knowing that they did not have a presence outside of the United States.
After a two-year partnership, we officially became the first-ever international branch of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Since that time we have seen our community huddle ministry in partnership with local churches expand from just one church and 24 athletes in an area of Bogota known as the "Belt of Misery" to nearly 70 churches and 5,000 athletes in two countries. In addition, we have seen hundreds of both athletes and coaches accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord through our summer sports camps, coach's clinics, and sponsored tournaments. With such results it's easy to see why we are so excited by what the Lord has done and continues to do through Colombia-Venezuela FCA in the hearts of athletes and coaches.
James received both his Master’s in Business Administration from Liberty University and his Bible Theology degree from Moody Bible Institute in 2007. James is married to Colombian native Sandra and together they have one daughter, Jessica Marie. They reside in both Weston, FL and Barranquilla, Colombia.
